Description:
This Highland Lao Landrace was sourced in Luang Prabang during a passing journey from Nong Khiaw to Xayaboury in December 2024. The collection was made while sorting through several kilograms of dried flowers. The flower displayed NLD (Narrow Leaf Drug) type morphology but was notably denser than expected for a Southeast Asian sativa.
Aromatically, the dried flowers were sweet and herbal, with subtle earthy undertones. The psychoactive effects were clear-headed and uplifting, with an energetic cerebral high typical of Lao sativas.

Context:
Luang Prabang, located in the northern highlands of Laos, is a region rich in cultural heritage and agricultural tradition. Nestled between the Mekong and Nam Khan Rivers, this area is known for its fertile valleys and tropical monsoon climate, creating an ideal environment for cannabis cultivation. Cannabis has been traditionally cultivated in the highlands of Northern Laos for centuries, primarily used in medicinal remedies, cooking and spiritual practices by local communities.
Although cannabis remains illegal in Laos, the cultural significance of the plant persists, and small-scale cultivation continues in remote mountain villages. However, increasing modernization and economic pressures are threatening traditional farming practices and the genetic integrity of native landraces.

Current Status:
The current status of this Highland Lao Landrace is unknown, as it was collected from dried flowers in Luang Prabang with no traceability to the original cultivation site. Further exploration in the highlands of Northern Laos is needed to identify the source and assess the genetic integrity of this lineage.
This accession is extremely limited due to the unknown origin and small seed stock. It represents a rare and incomplete glimpse into the genetics of Northern Laos, preserving a genetic lineage that is rapidly disappearing.
